Drechslera is usually found growing on grass, soil, plants, and decaying food.
The colour varies from dark grey to brown and black with a suede-like texture.
Many species of Drechslera is a plant pathogen, of grasses in particular. It has been reported to cause corneal infection of the eye as well as keratitis, sinusitis, and osteomyelitis and brain abscess.
It is also a common allergen causing Type I allergies such as hay fever and asthma.
